• From its inception, Westside Community Schools, District 66, has set lofty academic standards for itself and its students. Those standards have been the driving force behind the district’s tradition of innovation and excellence since the district opened in 1947.

Westside’s 1-to-1 technology initiative began at our high school building in 2004 and was expanded in 2008 to include our middle school 8th graders.  In the spring of 2014 the Westside Board of Education unanimously voted to provide every student with a personal learning device beginning with the 2014-15 school year.  7th-12th graders use laptops while kindergarten through 6th grade students use iPads.

NOTE: The District provides access to computers to students in grades K-12.  The question has been raised as to whether a student could bring their own computer to school to use rather than using the school-provided computer.  The answer is no – students are not permitted to substitute their own computer for a District-provided computer.  This is necessary so that we can control content and monitor access to the Internet as required by law, including the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).

Our students and teachers continue to develop phenomenal teaching and learning practices on a daily basis.  Technology has become, and will continue to be an essential component in the DNA of Westside Community Schools.
